- Show the path from the street opening into the room.
- Have the equipment and setup position assessed before arranging an application.
- Agree who checks the municipal process and handles any required paperwork.
Show the furniture and the route it would take
Measure the bulky item and say which parts can be removed. Send photos of the stairs, turns and doorway that concern you. Ask the mover to assess whether carrying, dismantling or an external lift is the appropriate option.
Furniture also needs a route from the window into its final room. Photograph that part of the property rather than stopping at the outside opening. Flag a fragile or unusually shaped item separately, so it is included in the assessment.
Check the proposed opening with the people responsible
Photograph the window or balcony from inside and the full front of the building from street level. Give the floor and measurements you can establish. Ask which further details the lift operator needs before judging the location.
Raise any building-access arrangements with the landlord or managing agent. If an owners’ association is involved, it may be called the “VvE”. Do not remove a window, railing or other part of the building yourself to create access; discuss any proposed alteration with the owner and the relevant tradespeople first.
Include the space outside the property
Show the proposed lift position and the space between it and the opening. Include anything in that space, such as parked vehicles, trees, street furniture or a cycle path. Leave the assessment of the position and equipment to the mover and lift operator.
Amsterdam publishes separate information about notifying the city of an object and applying for an object permit. The notification page refers to unregistered moving lifts among other objects and sets location conditions. Check the appropriate process for the actual equipment and address, rather than using a general promise that a lift needs no permit.
Amsterdam municipality: notifying the city of an object (Dutch)
Separate the lift booking from the municipal arrangements
On the city’s Dutch pages, “melding” means a notification and “objectvergunning” means an object permit. Agree who will check which process applies and who will handle any application. A booking confirmation from a lift company does not answer those questions by itself.
Ask whether the removal vehicle’s position is also covered by the proposed arrangements or needs a separate check. Keep any unanswered question visible in the schedule. If the municipality’s response changes the proposed position, send it to the mover before confirming the revised setup.
- Which equipment and street position have been assessed?
- Who checks the city’s requirements for that setup?
- What operator time and work are included in the agreed service?
Tell the mover when the situation changes
New furniture, different access or an unavailable setup position can change the proposed job. Share the change before moving day and ask the mover how to proceed. Do not move the agreed position elsewhere on the assumption that the original assessment still applies.
Keep photos, dimensions and written confirmations together. The useful outcome is a clear account of what has been checked, what has been agreed and what is still outstanding. Use your wider moving checklist for the remaining household preparation.
